Online rating and review sites are steadily becoming a key influencer in healthcare. Not only have patient reviews surged into the millions, but patients seeking a provider are using them to guide their decision making. Recent research from SoftwareAdvice.com shows that 84% of patients used online reviews to evaluate physicians, and 77% of patients prioritize online reviews as the first step in searching for a new doctor.

The continued increase in the number of online patient reviews has also created an opportunity for healthcare organizations to learn from and improve the patient experience. From appointment scheduling and physician bedside manner to wait times, it is imperative that healthcare organizations manage feedback, quickly respond to concerns and use reviews to deliver a superior consumer experience.

Healthcare providers are investing in social media strategies to attract and retain consumers, create incentives for doctors to improve patient satisfaction, and to identify operational or personnel issues that affect the patient experience.

As Part of Providence Ventures, Providence Health & Services adopted Binary Fountain in 2013, a solution that enables the organization to efficiently “listen to” what social media, online rating and review sites, and other online sources are saying about its service in a scalable way.

McLean, Va., February 16, 2016Binary Fountain announced today the deployment of its Binary Star Ratings solution for providing physician star ratings and patient reviews for Providence Health & Services’ online physician profile pages. Binary Star Ratings not only creates more transparency for patients searching for verified patient reviews and ratings of physicians, but also improves online search engine rankings as the review content enhances the relevance of the physician profile pages in search engine results.

“Health systems like Providence are responding to the demand by consumers for better information before they choose a health care provider by providing more transparency,” said Ramu Potarazu, CEO, Binary Fountain. “We’re excited about completing the deployment of Binary Star Ratings across Providence physician profile pages which will help patients make better decisions about selecting their Providence health care provider.”

Providence is using Binary Fountain to monitor patient feedback for more than 4,000 employed physicians and publishes reviews/ratings for those physicians that have received a minimum number of survey results. Patient ratings and comments are now publicly available on Providence online physician profile pages across Washington, Oregon, Montana and California.

The star rating is generated from the Consumer Assessment of Healthcare Providers and Systems (CAHPS) Patient Experience Survey. After a visit, patients are randomly selected to participate in this survey as well as being asked to leave comments about their provider experience. The patient comments are de-identified and published in their entirety except for health-related information.

“The relationship between the patient and the health care provider is one of the most important relationships in an individual’s life. Providence is committed to providing as much information to patients as possible to help them find the best match with a provider as possible,” said Orest Holubec, Senior Vice President of Marketing and Communications. “We are now able to provide credible, verified, patient reviews of physicians with a much larger sample size of comments compared to third party and social media sites.”
